Laua`e Fern

Highly medicinal from leaf to root, Polynesian herbalists use this generous fern to balance hormones, lower fevers, clear up bacterial and fungal infection, and heal wounds. Hawaiian cultural practitioners use Laua`e (lit: beloved) to scent ceremonial kapa cloth and in lei. A Native of India, the potent actions of Vetiver root guard against bacterial and microbial infection, inflammation, fever, and burns. The volatile oils are used in aromatic medicine for grounding, calming and stability after shock or emotional trauma, PTSD, and pain. Sugi Cedar
Japonica cryptomeria
Sugi literally means cedar in Japanese, yet he is actually a cypress! The wood and branches are psychopompic in Japanese ritual, helping to bring inspiration and peace during cremations. The volatile chemicals found in various parts of Sugi are considered entheogenic and may produce states of elation or intense focus. The terpenes in his bark and branches are anti-microbial, -fungal, and -bacterial. Find him in our KAWAIKINI aromatic hydrosol.
Plumeria

Originally from Meso-America, Plumeria has come to speak the language of aloha quite fluently. In the height of summer’s bloom, her sweet scent envelopes the entire island chain. In Mayan Mexico, Plumeria is said to have played a central role in fertility ceremonies, along with cacao, forever linking both plants with passion and love. The constituents in her bloom are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory, contributing strong medicine to our HAWAIIAN MIRAGE floral hydrosol.

Canaga odorata
Native to Malaysia, the Philippines, and the South Pacific islands, this highly fragrant tree grows happily in Hawaiian gardens and gifts the evening air with ribbons of sensual perfume. Her scent has long been revered as strong aromatic medicine; as she is a classic aphrodisiac, and produces calming, cooling, and harmonizing alkaloids to the human brain. The flowers we use in HAWAIIAN MIRAGE are grown in Waliua on Kaua`i, and steam-distilled on the full moon.
Hoya Flower
Hoya lanceolata ssp. bella
We grow Hoya cumingiana Flower and triple-infuse her blossoms in Camellia oil over 3 moon cycles. New to the West but beloved by Polynesian healers, the flowers are used to make preparations to alleviate inflammations, rashes and burns. Extracts of Hoya flowers have been shown to have collagen-promoting and lipid producing properties in the skin, with potential strong anti-aging properties. Kī
Cordyline fruticosa
Central to everyday living in the Pacific, this relative of the agave family has purpose from his tips to roots. The sugar content in his stalk and rhizome make medicine that fights infection, pathogens, and malaise. Traditionally used to regulate temperature, increase hydration, and strengthen physiological systems. Kī is sacred to Lono and Laka, and is woven into the spiritual practice and planting of Hawai`i. We offer his medicine in WAI`ALE`ALE SERUM.

Known in Hawai`i as the PAKALANA TREE, she oozes sensuality and bliss. A Native to India she is beloved for her beautifying powers for the skin to remain youthful, bright, balanced, and smooth. She will appear in limited addition hydrosols and oils dependent on the season's harvest. Check back often to experience her majesty!
Maile
Alyxia oliviformis
Maile is a sacred forest vine, exhaling the breath of Laka, the Hawaiian forest goddess. She is a member of the olive family, and her perfume comes from the aromatic chemical compound of coumarin, found in tonka beans, sweet grass, cinnamon, laua`e, and cherry blossom. She has been over-harvested in recent years so we are growing her and care for her in the forest. We steam-distill her leaves only when plentiful and regenerative. Available in Wai`ale`ale SERUM.
Niaouli Tree
Melaleuca quinquenerv
Aromatic medicine from this Australian native naturalized to the Hawaiian forest instills a sense of flow and calm. When you discover her, you usually smell her before you see her—this is to remind you to slow down and pay attention. She has been called ‘White River Tree’ by Aboriginal peoples due not only to her powder-white flowers but because her medicine purifies the human respiratory system from pollution, parasites, and black fungus. A tropical fruit that has been fermented for not only potent health actions, but for the unique caramel-vanilla-grass-cinnamon fragrance beloved by the human nose across cultures and centuries. FERNS
Honored for their ancient alkaloids and divine fragrance, ferns are amongst Hawai`i's most potent medicine. Traveling across oceans by wind, the spores of a fern are among the first green life to propagate on cooled lava rock -- 65% of Hawaiian ferns exist no where else on Earth. They hold genetic tales of myth and magic. Ferns from diverse biomes across the island form the foundation of our botanical distillations.
FLOWERS
Tropical flowers exude sensuality and fertile ecosystems. Plants bloom at the height of their reproductive cycle and communicate with pollinators through volatile oils released into the atmosphere. Conscious cultivation and harvesting allows us to capture their essence and potency.
